What Everyone Needs to Know About CBD

People, it’s time to learn the difference between cannabis and hemp, THC and CBD. They’re going to be a much larger part of your life than they have been up to now, because of changes in the law.

Actually, both THC and CBD and a whole host of other cannabinoids come from the cannabis plant. But since marijuana became illegal and was repositioned as a Schedule 1 drug, the emphasis by growers has been on ratcheting up the THC in cannabis plants, which is where the money has been, and not caring much about the CBD.

The hemp plant, although part of the cannabis family, contains not more than .3% THC. Hemp got caught up in the government’s effort to outlaw marijuana. People who wanted hemp, even for things like rope, had to import it from Europe. However, CBD is now legal in every state, whereas THC is legal in 9 states, and many more as medical marijuana.

Growing and selling industrial hemp was legalized by the Farm Bill that was passed at the end of last year, which means for the first time since 1937, we will have hemp farmers, probably taking the place of tobacco farmers. I’ve heard that in North Carolina, many farmers who used to grow tobacco are converting to hemp, which is a wonderful thing, because hemp is a purifier of our soil.
